SIX DAYS IN

Ian Shults was born a poor white child in Corpus Christie, Texas in 1978.  Shortly after his arrival in Austin, he began school and soon learned he'd have to rely on his natural born skills as an artist.  Never caring exactly just how punk rock he was, Ian survived off a myriad of odd jobs that included selling fish and creating displays for a large urban outfitting company.

A chance encounter in South Austin placed the youthful genius under the tutelage of Rory Skagen.  With a guiding hand and a new audience, Ian's work blossomed, and his talent became in high demand.  Rejecting higher offers in London, Los Angeles and New York, Ian decided to remain in Austin and worked at Blue Genie Art.  His sculpting and drawing abilities were well utilized, and he was an integral member of the team that has produced innumerable public sculptures, murals and designs that have become the fabric of Austin.

Once the youthful vigor of his early twenties started to wane, he settled down with an incredible wife, and made East Austin their home, where he has continued his exploration of a decadent, drug laden lifestyle behind the safety of his easel.  In addition to showing his paintings filled with seedy debauchery, Ian was the man behind the blockbuster shows, 'Will There Ever Be a Rainbow?' unicorn art show and the outlandish 'Radical Nautical' show of sea themed art.  In addition to his wife, Ian takes care of his two cats, Cigarettes and Liar.
