The Tales of the Really White Vigilante is a four volume comic book series detailing the efforts of one young man's often ironic quest to save East Austin from developers and hipsters. 

Shortly his arrival in East Austin, our young hero dons a lucha libre costume and fights the gentrification of East Austin. 

Armed with wit and a cape, the stories of change, development, and growth all wrap around the Vigilante.  Hipsters, politicians and developers haunt his dreams. 

The third comic book is now available direct from Michael Schliefke, as well as at Domy Books and Austin Books in Austin.  The first two volumes are also currently available at Amazon.com. (Volume One, Volume Two)

A special one night discussion bases around the Really White Vigilante's battles against the gentrification of East Austin takes place at Monkeywrench Books on Wednesday, February, 10 from 7-9pm. In addition to talking about the comic book series, a discussion about the gentrification of the east side and the use of art to address, satirize, and deal with the social effects will take place.

There will be introductory remarks by Eliot Tretter, local urban geographer, and then a discussion about the Really White Vigilante comic book series by Michael Schliefke. Michael will be joined in the discussion by Ben Reed, writer and author of the 'Accidental Gentrifist' that appeared on the Austinist, and Shea Little, artist and co-founder of the East Austin Studio Tour.

VOLUME THREE PROGRESS REPORT:
Ian Shults is signed on to work on the third cover of the book, and Corey Goering has again agreed to produce some more ads for the third volume of the four book series.  The book is now written and into the drawing stage, with over 300 reference photos loaded up and ready to go.

'The Two Bobs', a film directed by Tim McCanlies and shot this spring in Austin, used Volume One as a prop throughout the movie.  Look for it onscreen in 2009.
